 Milan Design Week 2026

Milano Design Week 2026: the city returns to the spotlight

Milan returns to the epicentre of the design world as it hosts Milan Design Week 2026: from 20th to 30th April, you can look forward to days packed with events, exhibitions, meetings and opportunities for dialogue that will bring the city and all its most distinctive neighbourhoods to life, in an electrifying atmosphere of creativity. This week, Milan is hosting the Salone del Mobile trade fair and the FuoriSalone design festival, with a packed programme that makes the city a global hub for the design industry.

We’ve put together a guide to help you find your way around the countless events that make Milan Design Week an unmissable experience, from the Salone del Mobile to the FuoriSalone, right through to a design hotel from which to explore the whole city.

Salone del Mobile Milano 2026: dates and tickets

Launched in 1961, the Salone del Mobile has become the leading trade fair in the interior design sector, as well as a celebration of Italian excellence in the field of furniture and home accessories. This event offers a complete overview of the world of home furnishings, showcasing every conceivable style and serving as a hub for business and culture.

The Salone del Mobile trade fair takes place from 21st to 26th April at the Fiera Milano exhibition hall, but please note that it is only open to the public on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April; the preceding days are reserved exclusively for industry professionals. To attend, simply purchase tickets, which are available at a reduced price on the official website official website or at full price directly at the event.

FuoriSalone Milano: a map of the places to visit

FuoriSalone takes place alongside Salone Internazionale del Mobile and comprises an array of events that bring Milan and many of its neighbourhoods to life. Originating in the 1980s, over time it has expanded to include initiatives beyond furniture, to include fields such as technology, the automotive industry, art, fashion, and music. It’s the most experimental side of the festival, the space where all these fields cross over.

As mentioned above, FuoriSalone animates almost the whole city, but some areas have historically been more closely tied to the event's identity than others:

  • Brera Design District

  • 5vie

  • Porta Venezia Design District

  • Tortona

  • Isola Design District

Let’s take a closer look at the programme for these districts during Milan Design Week 2026 and what’s on at FuoriSalone

Milano Design Week Cosa Vedere

Brera, the heart of Milan’s design district

Brera is Milan’s artistic quarter and one of the FuoriSalone highlights. With over 300 events packed into its vibrant streets, and the district’s iconic charm at every turn, it’s a must-visit for design lovers. Don’t miss the Garden of the Hesperides by the Franco-Lebanese architect Annabel Karim Kassar, which combines art, mythology and architecture to transform the Botanical Gardens into a place of contemplation.

Another must-see is glo for art 2026 at Palazzo Moscova, an exhibition by the Numero Cromatico art collective and Casa di Giotto Calendoli, held at Eataly Milano Smeraldo. The installation celebrates the emotional and sensory connections we have with food.

Porta Venezia: innovation and exhibitions during Milan Design Week

Fashion, innovation and modern architecture: it is on these pillars that Porta Venezia has built its growing reputation in the world of Milanese design. The programme is still being finalised, but we already know that the district will host one of the five MATERIAE events. This major exhibition created through a collaboration between Rivista Interni and Audi, explores the various interpretations of the concept of matter and experimentation with contemporary materials in today’s world.

If this has piqued your interest, opening hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from 21st to 26th April, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from 27th to 30th April. Admission is always free.

5Vie, the human being at the heart of the design experience

The 5Vie district winds its way through the heart of Milan, specifically between Corso Magenta, Sant'Ambrogio and the Colonne di San Lorenzo. This medieval neighbourhood, considered the oldest in the city, offers a packed programme of events in April that focuses on the dialogue between design, art and craftsmanship, with a strong emphasis on a human-centred approach.

5Vie focuses on the relationship between human beings, the spaces that surround them, and the very concept of design. Key installations in the artistic programme Qualia of Things include:

  • Resonance by Maria Cristina Didero and Marco Guazzini, featuring materials patented by the designers themselves.

  • Cosmic Meadow by Elizabeth Lewis, where handcrafted ceramics transform surrealism into striking, visually impactful forms.

  • La fiamma che non brucia (The Flame That Doesn’t Burn) by Giuditta Vattese, an enamelled sculpture conceived as an altar for contemplation.

Rediscovering Design in Tortona

No visit to FuoriSalone in Milan is complete without exploring the Tortona district, a vibrant hub of collectives that’s constantly buzzing with creativity:

  • Tortona Design Week. A spectacle within the spectacle. Open-air workshops, meetings, events, and exhibitions will animate the district, transforming it into a vibrant hotspot of creativity. The theme for the 2026 edition is Thinking Better, Look back to Shape the Future, with major exhibitors including Hyundai, Geberit, Lexus, Toyota Industries Corporation, DUXIANA, Switzerland Global Enterprise, and Lechler.

  • Superstudio Più. The venue at Via Tortona 27 presents SuperNova, a project by the renowned design studio that lets visitors discover the latest trends in international design through pavilions, site-specific projects, and installations.

  • BASE. A workshop dedicated to experimentation and dialogue on design, often employing unconventional approaches. This year, the most intriguing project so far is Hello Darkness, curated by We Will Design.

  • Tortona Rocks. The independent project, which began in the neighbourhood over ten years ago, returns with the theme Design to Change. Participating brands include IQOS, Swatch, McDonald’s and Maison Du Monde.

Isola Design District, towards a design for the future

Isola Design District is gearing up for its tenth annual event, entitled TEN: The Evolving Now. It revives some of the formats that have made it so successful whilst introducing new ideas and collaborations. Notable partners include Designtech, with whom it has organised a series of pavilions, and Materially, which will host a dedicated exhibition.

This year's event will highlight Isola's emergence as a design district, and its vision for the future as it keeps the local community and its people at the very heart of the experience.

Tips for visiting FuoriSalone

If you're planning your FuoriSalone itinerary, it's helpful to know how to get around the various districts taking part in Design Week. Milan has an excellent transport system, with plenty of options including the metro, trams, buses and pedestrian routes; most of the districts we've mentioned can also be reached by bicycle, e-bike or on foot, often in combination with public transport.
