There are over 500 women in UNA Italian Hospitality: let’s discover their personal and professional life stories.
Originally from Campania, now a Milanese by adoption. The new protagonist of 'UNA è femminile' is Giuseppina Padovano, Revenue Manager at the UNA Italian Hospitality headquarters.
The column dedicated to the more than 500 professional women working at UNA Italian Hospitality today focuses on the Revenue department of the hotel group, where Giusy is employed. But what does a Revenue Manager actually do? To find out, read her interview and don’t miss her profile.
Welcome, Giusy. What is your current role at UNA Italian Hospitality?
I work as Revenue Manager for three properties within our hotel chain. My responsibilities involve optimizing the revenue performance of the hotels under my supervision by implementing carefully crafted strategies aimed at achieving—and surpassing—budget and forecast targets, thereby maximizing overall financial results. If I were to explain my role to a child, I would say: imagine you have a shop full of candies. If many children want to buy them, I can raise the price; but if only a few children come to the shop, I need to lower the price and find the best way to attract them. I also make forecasts to estimate how many candies I will be able to sell.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding and stimulating aspect of my job is witnessing how my decisions can have a tangible impact on the performance of the hotels. It is gratifying to know that I can contribute to the success of my company and see the results of the strategies I implement. Another aspect I deeply value in my work is the relationship developed with colleagues across the hotels. Working together fosters teamwork and helps build strong connections based on mutual trust and a shared commitment to common goals. This creates a positive environment where it is more enjoyable to work, with each individual contributing and feeling valued as part of a collective objective.
And what is the most complicated aspect of your job?
The most complicated aspect involves managing the unexpected. Sudden changes in demand can make decision-making complex and often stressful. In these moments, finding quick solutions and maintaining control requires a great deal of adaptability and a constant strategic vision.
Outside of work, do you have any particular hobbies or passions?
My greatest passion is my family, especially my little boy. I enjoy shopping, watching movies and TV series, taking long walks by the sea and traveling.
If you could describe yourself in three adjectives, what would they be?
Determined, reliable and collaborative.
And if you could describe your company in three adjectives, what would they be?
Welcoming, sustainable and proactive.
What piece of advice would you give to a young lady entering the hospitality industry for the first time?
To a young professional, I would encourage cultivating curiosity and dynamism, while consistently adopting a positive, service-oriented mindset. At the core of the hospitality industry lies the guest experience, making it essential to approach one's work with enthusiasm and passion. Furthermore, I would emphasize the importance of teamwork: fostering strong collaboration with colleagues not only contributes to a harmonious and stimulating work environment, but also ensures the delivery of exceptional service.
In your professional experience, have you ever encountered any prejudice due to being a woman?
Honestly, no, I have never encountered such an experience.
In Italy, there is still considerable progress to be made in achieving gender equality. What measures, in your view, could companies implement to promote gender equality and better address the needs and aspirations of female professionals?
I believe companies should promote the advancement of women into leadership positions and encourage training programs for professional development. However, it seems to me that most companies are already moving in this direction.
